When buying a new laptop, it is hard to make a decision on which laptop is the best. Are you trying to decide on which laptop to get and just can’t make up your mind? Some computers are just better than others but the many factors that come into play when choosing a new laptop makes this task more daunting than it actually is. In this article, I will give you the six most important factors to look for when you are in the market for and purchasing a new laptop.
1. Laptop Size
Laptop size is usually determined by the screen size. The bigger the screen, the larger the laptop will be. Usually, the standard laptop sizes are 13 inch, 15 inch, and 17 inch. 13 inch laptops are for business travelers or students who need a portable computer to travel with and take with them. 15 inch laptops are more common as they are for the average home user who occasionally wants to bring it on a plane or to a friend’s house. 17 inch laptops are called desktop replacements and are generally built for gaming or other hardware intensive tasks.
This factor is self-explanatory. You want a computer that looks nice and is comfortable to view and type on.
3. Processor Speed
The wide range of processors on the market creates more confusion in comparing laptops. Processors usually are rated by two factors, clock speed, and the number of cores. You want to aim for a high clock speed while having a large number of cores. Four cores is preferable, two cores is alright, but never get a computer with only a single core processor. Today’s processors range from the newest Intel Core i7’s, the best, to low clock speed and single core processors, the worst.
4. Memory (RAM)
Memory is the term used for how much information a computer can temporarily store. This factor is typically used when you multitask a lot. If you multitask on your computer a lot, then a lot of memory is essential to a speedy computer. Computers these days typically range from 1 GB to as much as 8 GB.
5. Hard Drive
The more hard drive space you have in a laptop, the more you can store. Pictures, videos, and documents are all stored on the hard drive. If you have a lot of these, you should consider a computer with more hard drive space.
